I decided to create my own “roving” workshop that premiered the first ever TED Summit in Banff Canada, and continued at the TED Summit in Arusha Tanzania. The basic premise is that as human behavior goes, we tend to defer to the routine. Routine is boring, forgettable, uneventful.

How can one help get out of the routine and enjoy more of what make life exciting. Make life an “experience”, one that is authentic, memorable, and impactful?

The Human Experience Design project. The concept is a set of cards that each represent an emotion that the receiver is challenged to design for. In Tanzania, a further challenge was that the emotions were written in Swahili.

Some results? At Banff an avid outdoorswomen who lives in the Klondike, was challenged to design an experience by changing their environment. Her solution? Sneaking into the spa at the Fairmont Chateau lake Louise for an unforgettable treat, indoors. In Tanzania every initial reaction was how to decrypt Swahili. how? The solution was simple with every participant immediately finding a local conference worker and engaging in Swahili translations and immediate smiles and connections that would of otherwise gone unnoticed.
